The Wolfpack came into the season hoping to fight for the ACC Atlantic division in its final season of existence. Instead, an injury to QB Devin Leary has turned the season sideways and NC State is only 3-4 in conference play and a division title is out of the picture for coach Dave Doeren’s squad.
A playoff berth for North Carolina was firmly in its grasp before an ill-timed 21-17 loss to lowly Georgia Tech Saturday. UNC went up 17-0 early in the game before the Yellow Jackets mounted a comeback to beat coach Mack Brown and Heisman-hopeful QB Drake Maye.
UNC is still going to play in the conference title game against Clemson in Charlotte, but playoffs are out of the picture and the only thing the Tar Heels are playing for in this game is state pride.

While North Carolina has dominated this series historically, NC State won 34-30 last season. That game had Leary under center for the Wolfpack and QB Sam Howell for the Tar Heels, so things will look different this year.
May, who is 3rd in the country with 34 TDs and leads UNC with 597 rushing yards, will lead the Tar Heels into this game while the defense continues the struggles it has had all season.
