To open the 2024 Thanksgiving NFL slate, the NFC’s No. 1-seeded Detroit Lions (10-1) host the Chicago Bears (4-7). Kickoff from Ford Field is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET (CBS), continuing Motown’s annual Turkey Day tradition. Below, we look at Bears vs. Lions odds from BetMGM Sportsbook’s NFL odds before making our expert NFL picks and predictions later in the week.

The Thanksgiving clash marks the first time the NFC North rivals will face each other for their annual two-game series.

Dan Campbell‘s club rides a 9-game win streak into the Thanksgiving opener, continuing its NFC reign after a convincing 24-6 win Sunday over the Indianapolis Colts. RB Jahmyr Gibbs scored 2 TDs while tallying 99 yards from scrimmage.

The short turnaround creates uncertainty with Detroit’s top-flight backfield. The bruiser in the Lions’ 1-2 punch, David Montgomery, sustained a shoulder injury Sunday. The veteran says he’ll play, but bettors should monitor that until kickoff.

The Bears saw an admirable Week 12 performance from rookie QB Caleb Williams (32-for-47, 340 yards, 2 TD) that included a fourth-quarter comeback. However, Chicago lost 30-27 in overtime to another NFC North squad, the Minnesota Vikings.

Chicago’s 5-game losing streak doesn’t necessarily reflect their play completely; they’re secretly typically a solid bet against the spread (ATS). Even with Williams’ gradual improvement, they’re having trouble improving their standing and even sniffing the playoffs in arguably the league’s best division.

Bears vs. Lions head-to-head

Since Campbell took over as Lions coach, these squads have split the series 3-3.

Wait — let’s deploy a better split: Since Ben Johnson became Detroit offensive coordinator to start 2022, it’s 3-1 Lions.

As convincing as that would typically sound, Williams’ presence—as mixed as it is—makes the recent history somewhat murky. Use this data with caution, especially given how successfully the Bears have performed against the spread in 2024.

The Bears lead the all-time series 105-78-5, including a 10-8 lead in games played on Thanksgiving.
