Final results of Chiefs’ trade for WR Kadarius Toney

With the 2023 NFL draft in the books, we now know the players selected with the picks the #Chiefs traded to acquire WR Kadarius Toney from the #Giants.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ move to acquire WR Kadarius Toney at the trade deadline last year helped the team to their second Super Bowl title in the past four seasons.

With the 2023 NFL draft now in the books, the results of that trade are officially in. The Chiefs traded picks No. 100 and No. 209 to the Giants in return for Toney. New York would later trade pick No. 100 to the Las Vegas Raiders for TE Darren Waller.

So who did Las Vegas use pick No. 100 on? The Raiders selected Cincinnati WR Tre Tucker. He’s a 5-foot-9 and 187-pound slot receiver and return specialist. He’s coming off a career season with 52 receptions for over 600 yards and three scores. The move seemed a tad redundant for them when they already have Hunter Renfrow working in the slot.

As for the Giants, they got a shiny new tight end for Daniel Jones with the trade for Waller. They also hung onto the sixth-round pick that Kansas City sent their way, selecting Old Dominion CB Tre Hawkins III at pick No. 209. He’s a 6-foot-2 and 189-pound outside cornerback who is a former track athlete, who projects as a developmental prospect.

Even without knowing how things will turn out for these two draft prospects or Waller in New York, I think it’s safe to say that Kansas City is more than happy with the results of this trade. Not only did they land a key weapon on offense who contributed to their latest Super Bowl title, but they gave the Giants the ammunition to acquire Waller from the Raiders. They ultimately weakened an AFC West opponent by proxy as a bonus to the whole thing.
