The ongoing learning process for Kansas City Chiefs rookies stretches beyond the team’s training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri. The preseason is a great chance for new NFL players to find their way in the league, and the Chiefs intend on getting the most out of their exhibition schedule.
Chiefs defensive lineman Felix Anudike-Uzomah has more pressure on him than most rookies because of his draft status and hometown connection to Kansas City. Anudike-Uzomah was the Chiefs’ first-round pick out of Kansas State and started slowly in camp due to injuries.
He revealed the lessons he’s learned from defensive line coach Joe Cullen since rookie minicamp to today while speaking with reporters following Monday’s practice.
“He’s a very good coach; the bottom line is just being tough on me—obviously, you need to be tough on a rookie because everything’s not set in stone,” said Anudike-Uzomah. “Right when you walk on the field, so just being tough on me teach me the things how to become a good pass rusher how to play technique, right how to do things like people in NFL do and especially the years he had in the NFL so there’s a lot of teaching that he can bestow on me.”
Anudike-Uzomah secured a tackle in Saturday’s victory over the Cardinals. He’s continued to say that he’s focused on improving weekly and should see more action during the preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns.
