Fantasy football draft: Where to target Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers

Analyzing Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers’ 2021 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers started his rookie season slowly in 2020 after being selected in the second round. However, with strong performances late in the season and in the playoffs, he showed promise as a featured back in an offense that can put up big numbers. Below, we look at Cam Akers’ 2021 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Akers was the Rams’ starting running back the first two weeks of the season and then was hampered by injuries for a while. He would appear in 13 games and start five. He had four games in his final seven with at least 80 rushing yards and two with over 100, including one in the playoffs.

Akers’ ADP: 24th overall

Akers is No. 24 overall among all players. He is taken as high as sixth overall and as low as 79th overall. He is owned in 57% of leagues.

He is the No. 12 running back. Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey is No. 1 and Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook is second. There are nine backs selected as high as No. 1 overall.

Where should you take Akers in your fantasy football draft?

Akers is an intriguing player because he has the potential to be a top producer. He is expected to be the lead back for the Rams in an offense that can produce in all phases. In 2017 and ’18, the Rams had Todd Gurley, who led the NFL in rushing touchdowns each year. He had more than 2,000 total yards in 2017 and more than 1,800 in ’18.

Akers has that sort of upside as a workhorse back and with a passing attack featuring QB Matthew Stafford and WRs Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, defenses will not be able to stuff the box.

Based on his college production, Akers has some upside as a receiver as well. He had 30 receptions and four receiving touchdowns in his final season at Florida State.

His touchdown production will increase in 2021 and so will his overall production.

Akers offers great value and upside if you can get him in the second or third round. If healthy, as the featured back, he will be used by the Rams like Gurley was. If there is a sleeper fantasy star in 2021, Akers could be that guy.
