Fantasy football draft: Where to draft Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon?

Analyzing Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon’s 2021 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon had a disappointing season last year. However, with a strengthened offensive line and a healthy star quarterback, Mixon’s 2021 ceiling could be sky-high Below, we look at Joe Mixon‘s 2021 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Mixon played and started a mere six games last season. Injuries hampered his season, one which resulted in a career-low 428 rushing yards.

The Bengals second-round pick in 2017 had a solid first half of the season, and he’s perennially been one of the better dual-threat backs. With pass-catching RB Giovani Bernard now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mixon may get additional receiving duties, boosting his stock in most leagues.

Mixon is 29th overall among players. Mixon goes as high as No. 3 and as low as No. 58. He was selected in 57% of leagues.

He is the 13th-ranked running back. Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey and Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Mixon and rookie WR Ja’Marr Chase are the only two Bengals in the top 50.

Where should you take Mixon in your fantasy football draft?

Mixon is in an interesting position moving forward. He’ll potentially slide after an injury-prone season last year, but his upside is going to be unmatched by anyone at his position.

He’s expected to be the lead back in Cincinnati and, for the first time in his career, could truly be the Bengals’ three-down back. With the addition of OT Riley Reiff and OT Jackson Carman, Mixon may also not be running behind the worst offensive line in the league.

Mixon has two straight seasons of at least 1,100 rushing yards, 30 receptions and 8 touchdowns. With QB Joe Burrow expected to be healthy for Week 1, the Bengals should have a competitive roster from the start.

As a late-second or early-third-round pick, Mixon poses great value. Despite his upside, it’s doubtful he’s considered in the first round. While he could be a stud with the additional pass-catching responsibility, even when at full strength, he still had just the 29th-most receptions for a running back.

In 2019, Mixon had the 13th-most points in PPR leagues per FF Today. That level, and even one notch higher given the advanced offensive line and loss of Bernard, is possible for the star back entering his fifth season.

Take him with caution in the middle of the second round, but in a standard 12-team league, easily select “draft” if he’s still there near the end of the second.
