Fallout 5 will arrive after Elder Scrolls 6, according to Todd Howard

The wait for another post-apocalyptic RPG from Bethesda could be a long one.

Get comfortable because the wait for the next Fallout won’t be short.

In an interview with IGN, Bethesda’s Todd Howard explained that the studio is currently busy making its sci-fi RPG Starfield. Once that project is over, development on Elder Scrolls 6 will ramp up.

Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while,” Howard explains. “We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well.”

Later in the same interview, Howard revealed that Bethesda began working on Starfield in 2015. When the game (hopefully) ships in 2023, it’ll have been in development for almost eight years. Factor in that Elder Scrolls 6 will probably take just as long to make, and you realize Fallout 5 is a long way off. Bethesda Game Studios isn’t known for speedy releases, after all.

“They do take a while, I wish they came out faster, I really do, we’re trying as hard as we can,” Howard continues. “But we want them to be as best as they can be for everybody.”

Starfield was shown off during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday, and thus far, it’s looking good.
