It wasn’t hard to predict that at least one LSU quarterback would enter the transfer portal after spring football since four players were neck-and-neck for the top spot on the depth chart.

Quarterback TJ Finley announced his intent to transfer this month and set his  commitment date. He’s also released the list of four transfer destinations.

Finley plans to announce his decision on Monday, according to 247Sports. There’s a decent chance the signal-caller will join another SEC quarterback room next week, considering that his four finalists are Auburn, Alabama, Penn State and Houston.

Regardless of where he ends up, Finley will have the chance to hit the field in the starting role.

“Each school has given me an opportunity to compete for the starting job,” Finley said in a report from AL.com. “Based on how comfortable I felt with that, I made my decision based off who I felt gave me the best opportunity to be successful.”

Finley started strongly in relief of starting quarterback Myles Brennan last season, but he struggled some after his first appearance as the starter.

Despite apparent problems with consistency and decision-making, what we’re looking at from Finley in this evaluation is based off a small sample size. In 2020, Finley was merely a true freshman taking the reins unexpectedly amid unprecedented circumstances.

It will be interesting to see how he can expand upon his foundation with a change of scenery.
