Ex-Lions QB Tim Boyle to sign with the New York Jets

Boyle was Detroit’s primary backup QB in 2021 and in the 2022 offseason

Tim Boyle is on the move once again. Detroit’s primary backup quarterback in the 2021 season has found a new home, this time with the New York Jets.

Multiple reports indicate the Jets are signing Boyle, who played in three games in place of an injured Jared Goff in 2021, losing all three starts and throwing six interceptions against three touchdowns. The 28-year-old QB was in line to be Goff’s top backup in 2022 but played his way out of the role and off the team last summer. He made a brief appearance with the Chicago Bears in their final game, throwing two more INTs in just eight pass attempts before being yanked for Nathan Peterman.

Boyle’s signing fuels the Aaron Rodgers-to-New York fire. The two played together in Green Bay under new Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in 2019-2020, and Rodgers preferred Boyle to be his No. 2 over ’19 first-rounder, Jordan Love.
