Former Detroit Lions defensive tackle Danny Shelton is heading to the New York Giants. Shelton agreed to sign with the Giants on a one-year contract, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus.
Shelton played just one season in Detroit. He was released after the 2020 campaign, a disappointing year where Shelton managed 37 tackles and one sack in 12 games, all starts. The 2015 first-round pick by the Browns initially signed with Detroit on a two-year, $8 million contract to beef up the interior defensive line.
He joins former Lions teammate Kenny Golladay with the Giants, who have been one of the most aggressive spenders in free agency this offseason. Because Shelton was released, his contract does not impact any compensatory pick equations for either team.
