Most current members of the Buffalo Bills haven’t voiced much during the ongoing social unrest in the United States.
Following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, peaceful protests have sprouted in municipalities across the country, including Buffalo. A few Bills players who commented include Ray-Ray McCloud posting a video of peaceful protesters, Tre’Davious White sending a message about “perspective” of those around you in such a time, while Jerry Hughes shared a video of Martin Luther King Jr. Some shared messages posted by others via shares and retweets.
Across the NFL, many players have voiced themselves much louder. Other NFL clubs seem to be a bit more “hands off” approach with players in this regard. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll went as far as saying “we owe a tremendous amount” to Colin Kaepernick this week.
On the opposite end of that spectrum, one of the league’s biggest stars, Saints quarterback Drew Brees, took an opposite viewpoint to Kaepernick. Kaep peacefully protested by taking a knee during the national anthem prior to NFL games to bring light to police actions targeting African American citizens.
Brees was asked on how he would feel about players kneeling in protest during the playing of the national anthem when the 2020 season starts. He was not into the idea.
“Well I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country,” he said.
Many fellow players were not happy about that response. Among them was a very recent former Bills player and a former first-round pick of the team, defensive end Shaq Lawson.
Now a member of the Dolphins, Lawson posted a picture of Brees taking a knee on the field:

Now, you can question one thing: Was this photo taken during the national anthem? Perhaps not, but it’s clear Lawson is not happy with Brees’ response.
Also one thing to wonder: Would Lawson send out such a message if he were still on the Bills? No Bills players have currently directly spoken out on Brees’ comments. Stefon Diggs did send out a message on Twitter referring to “shaking his head” and an eye-rolling emoji on Wednesday, but it’s just speculation that his message was about Brees.
