Texas opened the 2023 college football season with a 37-10 win over Rice.
While many expected the score to be a bit more lopsided, there were still several positive takeaways from the game. Texas’ defense was the star of the show. The Longhorns forced three turnovers and were able to consistently pressure quarterback JT Daniels.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers had a respectful stat line of 260 passing yards, four total touchdowns and no interceptions. However, he is still seemingly struggling to connect with receivers on the deep ball.
Third-year head coach Steve Sarkisian spoke to the media after the season opener and had high praise for the defense, several true freshmen’s performance, and the team’s overall versatility.
