Jeff Garcia made 45 starts between 2001 and ’03. The other three went to Tim Rattay, who started nine games in ’04 with the rest going to Ken Dorsey. Alex Smith came around in ’05 and shared duties with Dorsey, Rattay and Cody Pickett. From ’06-12, Smith made 65 starts. In the times he was not able to play, Trent Dilfer, Shaun Hill, Chris Weinke, J.T. O’Sullivan and Troy Smith made starts. Colin Kaepernick made seven starts in 2012 and 58 overall by the end of 2016. Blaine Gabbert was the starter 13 times in ’15 and ’16. In 2017, the trio of C.J. Beathard, Brian Hoyer and Jimmy Garoppolo took turns. The next year Garoppolo started three games before being injured. Beathard and Nick Mullens filled in for Jimmy G, who started every game in 2019.
