The initial transfer period for 2023 has closed and 2023 national signing day is coming up. With 25 signees on board for the Oklahoma Sooners, it’s likely they’re done for 2023. Now the 2024 recruiting cycle takes center stage and becomes the priority for Brent Venables and his staff.
After putting together the No. 8 class in 2022 in less than two months and the No. 5 class in their first full year on the trail with the Sooners, Oklahoma will no doubt put together another top 5-10 class once again.
The first name that appears to be trending toward a commitment is four-star quarterback [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag]. He has a chance to see an upswing in his recruiting profile over the next year, and if the Sooners can get him on board when he commits at the end of January, it could lead to several more key dominoes to fall.
The Sooners have offered 21 of the 27 five-star prospects in the 247Sports composite rankings. 13 of those players are on the defensive side of the ball. Two are listed as Athletes, which for Brent Venables typically means they’ll likely be defensive players if the 2023 class is any indication. Three of those five-star offers are wide receivers, two are quarterbacks, and one is a tight end.
Of the 13 players listed strictly as defenders, eight play along the defensive front, three play cornerback, one plays safety, and one plays linebacker.
Oklahoma appears to be in good standing with [autotag]K.J. Bolden[/autotag], [autotag]David Stone[/autotag], and [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag]. They’ll have work to do to earn their commitments, but they’re in the ball game. As for the others, as we saw with Peyton Bowen, nothing’s final till it’s final. A commitment today could change by the early signing period or national signing day.
Here’s a look at each of the five-star prospects to receive an [autotag]offer[/autotag] from the Oklahoma Sooners.
