Bills quarterback Josh Allen is no stranger to jumping over people.
Famously, Allen leapt over Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr in 2018. Now Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed knows exactly what that feels like.
One of the top highlights from the Bills’ convincing 38-20 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football was Allen extending a late drive by jumping over Sneed. Allen floated in the air and landed just beyond the first-down marker.
Onlookers were wow’d by the play… and his teammates were not immune to being part of that group.
Heck, even Bills head coach Sean McDermott couldn’t help but smile about the play. Following the game, McDermott joked Allen can leap over him if he really wants to.
“I’ll take it. Yeah, I’ll take that first down. He can jump over me if he wants for that first down,” McDermott said.
Naturally, if there’s a candid moment to be had, offensive lineman Dion Dawkins is going to have something fun to say… and he did.
“I seen it in slow motion,” Dawkins said via video conference. “That’s just Josh doing what Josh does. Honestly, like watching him, because he was on my left. And I was like… ‘uh, what is he about to do?’ and he just hurdled. I was like ‘welp, that’s just Josh.’
“As long as he got up and came back to the huddle’? I’m all good.”
And even one of the more unbaised viewpoints was still impressed. It’s noted that Bills wide receiver Emmaneul Sanders has played with some of the best quarterbacks in the business such as Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.
Even Sanders was left searching for the right words a bit.
“17 is special,” Sanders said via press conference. “It’s ridiculous what he’s doing out there. Even him jumping over a defender, I mean he was just on a whole other level tonight.”
Really the only one that could find the way describe the play was Allen himself. In usual fashion, Allen downplayed it. He was just looking for the first down.
“Knowing the situation, how the game was going, I just felt like we needed something to get a first down there. Again, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to help our team win a football game,” Allen said. “In my mind, that was at the top of the list.”
Kudos to Allen for sticking to his brand… but that effort was something special.
