Even PFF isn’t sure who could be a cap casualty for the Bills

Even PFF isn’t sure who could be a cap casualty for the #Bills:

Who could the Buffalo Bills cut to create some salary cap space?

Well, there are options, but even Pro Football Focus isn’t exactly sure. It’s not a long list.

The football analytics outlet named… or tried to… one player that’s a potential salary cap causality for every team in the NFL.

The answer for Buffalo? “N/A.”

Even PFF is stumped because of the way the Bills’ salary cap looks. But there are a few suggestions made:

The Bills acquired running back Nyheim Hines at the trade deadline, and while he provided a big spark to their return game, he wasn’t a huge factor on offense and is owed $4.79 million in 2023. However, with running back Devin Singletary a pending free agent, it would make sense for the Bills to work something out as opposed to cutting Hines. Interior defender Tim Settle didn’t make a huge impact in his first season with the club, but the team probably doesn’t want to weaken a position group that got bullied out of the playoffs by a Cincinnati Bengals reserve offensive line.

Of all the players the Bills could cut to make cap room, Hines is at the top of the list. He would save Buffalo a good chunk and the team is expected to be near $20M over next year’s cap.

Even though the Bills did just trade for Hines, he could still be a candidate. That’s because he did not cost the team very much, mostly running back Zack Moss, who was not seeing playing time in Buffalo.

Other potential names to monitor and how much the Bills would save by moving on for them include:

  • WR Isaiah McKenzie ($2.9M)
  • DT Tim Settle ($4.96M)
  • CB Taron Johnson ($4.2M)

And for those forgetting, renegotiating and restructuring contracts is another route the Bills could, and likely will take, in order to find more salary cap space.
