The Buffalo Bills have a knack for turning the unlikely into business as usual.
But even their first touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers was surprising to see.
The Bills (4-1) rolled the Steelers (1-4). The final score was 38-3 and got started on a crazy pass from quarterback Josh Allen to receiver Gabe Davis just minutes in.
Backed up against their own goal line after only three plays, Allen flung the ball down the field. After a cool 98-yard run, Davis scored to put Buffalo up 7-0.
After the game, the two players involved took opposite stances.
Allen said Davis has had his confidence for awhile, even if an ankle injury has hampered him in recent weeks.
“I’ve got so much trust and faith in 13,” Allen said via video conference. “Gabe just did his thing and ran–Just gave him a chance to go make a play and he did.”
Allen’s comment was coming from hindsight. Not only did Davis score on that pass, he did later on in the game on another catch more than 60 yards down the field.
Candidly, Davis admitted in the locker room that he wasn’t actually sure he’d make the play–Or at least he wasn’t thinking he’d be running the length of the field.
“I saw the coverage they were playing,” Davis said. “I knew it was gonna be a big play, I didn’t know it was going to be 98 yards.”
