Evan Boehm joined Bills because of team’s ‘unbelievable’ track record

Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Evan Boehm explains why he signed with the Buffalo Bills.

Evan Boehm is a depth piece along the Buffalo Bills’ offensive lines things sit on paper. But as the regular season has inched closer and closer, Boehm’s potential importance to the Bills has increased as well.

Over the past week, the Bills have done some shuffling along the O-line. Last year’s starting right guard, Jon Feliciano, was sidelined for an extended period due to a chest injury. Shortly after, Brian Winters, recently released by the Jets, was signed by the Bills. But another former Jet, Spencer Long, was then released by the Bills.

Winters could fit right into the fold as Feliciano’s plug-and-play replacement. That could hold true, but that’s not how things work in Buffalo. Bills head coach Sean McDermott runs a system of giving jobs to players who earn them. The coach said after Feliciano’s injury that it’ll be “next man up.”

So is that man Winters… or maybe possibly Boehm? Keep an eye on him as training camp unfolds, especially because in recent years, Boehm’s kept an eye on Buffalo. Via the Buffalo News, Boehm recently revealed why he chose to sign a one-year deal with the Bills earlier this offseason. He’s motivated to be an impact-maker because that.

“You just look at Buffalo’s track record from the last couple years, it’s unbelievable and I want to be a part of something special and help a team win,” Boehm said.

The 28-year-old certainly shouldn’t be looked over in terms of landing on Buffalo’s final 53-man roster, at least. After making eight starts with the Dolphins last season, Boehm said another reason for joining the Bills was his familiarity with Buffalo’s offensive line coach, Bobby Johnson. The two spent time together with the Colts, and that could give Boehm an upper hand on the competition.

And of course, it’s not the Bills if an offensive lineman doesn’t have versatility. That’s exactly what Boehm has, an ability to play both guard and center. Boehm also attributed this to his landing in Buffalo.

“I think versatility is huge to stay in the NFL,” he said.
