ESPN’s Chris Fowler, Robert Griffin III to call Colorado’s spring football game

Two of ESPN’s top names, including CU alum Chris Fowler, will be on the call for the Buffaloes’ spring game

The Buffaloes are going Prime Time.

Well not exactly primetime, but ESPN is pulling out all the stops for Colorado’s Black and Gold Day spring game — scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. MT.

The Buffaloes’ first spring game under head coach Deion Sanders will be broadcast on ESPN — the only spring game to be broadcast on the main network — and it will be called by Chris Fowler and Robert Griffin III.

Fowler, a CU alumnus, is a mainstay at the network and has served as ESPN’s No. 1 college football play-by-play commentator since the departure of Brent Musberger in 2017.

Griffin, popularly known as RG3, has been working for ESPN following an eight-year NFL career that was stunted by injuries. RG3 is one of the up-and-coming names on the network, contributing as a color commentator on college football games and as an analyst on NFL Live.

Colorado’s spring game being called by two of ESPN’s top names is another example of how the program has changed since the hiring of Sanders.

Time will tell if Sanders can turn things around on the field in Boulder, but so far he’s well on his way to turning the tide.
