I get it we all are excited that college football is right around the corner and Jimbo Fisher needs to be on everyone’s list for some reason. 99.9% of the time it’s going to be a reference to a seat that may or may not be hot. At the same time, I’m also not naive. Last season was a dumpster fire from almost every aspect of Murphy’s law and Jimbo deserves a lot of criticism.
However, no one forced Texas A&M to give him such a massive extension without producing a 10-win season in the five years he’s been at the helm. So, do I believe that it’s a make-or-break season for Fisher? It depends. If after all the changes made, they struggle to make a bowl game there might be some consideration to find a way to move on.
But all indications are that Jimbo has a little more pep in his step this season and the team feels more like a complete unit. This was something that was brought up in a recent TexAgs podcast by Billy Lucci and a recent conversation Walter Nolan had with the team at Studio 12.
Now that I got that off my chest, ESPN recently dropped their 2023 football picks and predictions by conference. If you want to check out the entire list, it will be linked at the bottom on the article. For now, I want to focus on the three predictions pertaining to the SEC and specifically the Aggies.
We’ll start with the copy-and-paste prediction that the SEC coach on the hot seat is…….drumroll Jimbo Fisher. As mentioned earlier this is a safe pick simply because of last season, but I believe it’s more of a lukewarm situation at the moment. Aggie fans will truly know how hot that seat really is after games six when Alabama comes to Kyle Field.
The next prediction is that new Texas A&M OC Bobby Petrino will win the Broyles Award. I can get on board with this for the following reasons hearing how much he is enjoying his time being a teacher, the comments from every skill player saying how dynamic the offense is under Petrino’s play calling, and lastly, the team is full of studs to feed.
Last is the final prediction record of 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the SEC is highly realistic. This is another prediction that is very reasonable to accept. the SEC West is a juggernaut, and the Aggies will play one of the better teams from the SEC East in Tennessee. While you will have to wait for my game-by-game record prediction, I’ll say that I’d easily give up a non-conference loss to gain a conference based on this season’s schedule.
