The NBA offseason is winding down as teams are set to convene for training camp in preparation for the 2023-24 season. The Philadelphia 76ers begin camp on Oct. 3 at Colorado State University.
The biggest storyline concerning the Sixers all summer was the trade request of James Harden. The Beard opted into his $35.6 million player option for the upcoming season, but the move was not to remain in Philadelphia, it was to facilitate a trade.
The Los Angeles Clippers are his preferred destination, but the Sixers have not received an offer that they deem acceptable. Therefore, Harden is still on the roster and is expected to be at training camp with the team.
ESPN performed a survey of 15 coaches, scouts, and executives around the league and the Sixers received four votes as having the worst offseason in the league. Only the Toronto Raptors received more votes with five:
Philadelphia lost Georges Niang to Cleveland, has made minimum-level moves and is now dealing with the Harden situation
Losing Niang is a bigger loss than some might think. He was a positive guy in the locker room always cracking jokes and keeping things lively while also being a knockdown shooter from deep.
The Sixers have brought in some solid pieces in free agency, but none is the shooter Niang is. Combine that with the Harden saga and this was certainly a tumultuous offseason for Philadelphia.
