When you have one of the best recruiting classes in the country, it’s expected that your position groups should be among some of the best collections in the nation.
The current group of Notre Dame’s 20 commits is very defense heavy in talent, so it should come as no surprise when Tom VanHaaren of ESPN named two positions of the Irish’s current recruiting haul as one of the top groups in the country.
VanHaaren first names the safeties the Irish have commits from: [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag] and [autotag]Adon Shuler[/autotag]. Both are ranked inside ESPN’s top 300; Bowen is 30th overall. VanHaaren believes “both will have an opportunity to contribute early in their career with the current depth chart.”
The other position group VanHaaren mentions is the defensive line, led by ESPN’s No. 1 defensive end [autotag]Keon Keeley[/autotag]. His future teammates [autotag]Brenan Vernon[/autotag], [autotag]Boubacar Traore[/autotag] and [autotag]Devan Houstan[/autotag] were singled out as well.
In order for the Irish to continue to stay on this list come signing day, they’re going to have to fend off schools trying to flip some of their more impressive commits. Alabama is coming hard after Keeley. He just visited Tuscaloosa. Bowen is also still talking with schools, most notably Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
