ESPN names New York best fit for Bryce Huff…but not the Jets

Free agency is right around the corner and the biggest question surrounding the Jets entering March is whether they’ll be able to keep edge-rusher Bryce Huff. After leading the team with ten sacks in 2023, Huff has set himself up for a big payday this offseason, potentially up to $20 million per year.

That said, ESPN’s Matt Bowen recently took his top 50 free agents, of which Huff was a part of, and gave his best fit for each free agent. Huff’s best fit from Bowen was in New York…but not the Jets. His best fit wound up being the New York Giants.

With a new defensive coordinator in Shane Bowen, the Giants would benefit from adding Huff — a flamethrower off the edge — to play opposite Kayvon Thibodeaux. Last season with the Jets, Huff produced 10 sacks and logged a pass rush win rate of 21.8% (eighth in the league). The Giants, meanwhile, were tied for 28th in sacks with 34.

Going into the Combine, the Giants have about $20 million in cap space, while the Jets have under $2 million according to Over the Cap. Those numbers will obviously change as the Jets will do what they can to perhaps make one final push before free agency begins to sign Huff.
