The Buffalo Bills enter Week 10 of the 2023 season at 5-4 and from the way the season has gone so far, Buffalo barely having a winning record sounds about right. The Bills began this season with a inconceivable loss to the New York Jets before ripping off a three-game win streak that included a impressive victory over the Miami Dolphins.
However, since Week 4, Buffalo has alternated between winning and losing and their most recent game, a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, proved to be costly as the Bengals will most likely be one of the teams that the Bills will have to compete against to come out of the AFC. Despite the losing and the devastating injuries to Tre’Davious White and Matt Milano, the future is still bright for Buffalo.
In ESPN‘s midseason report, the Bills had some encouraging tidbits to point out. For one, Buffalo is ranked as the 3rd-best team in the NFL according to ESPN’s FPI and they have a 57.6% chance of making the playoffs. While ESPN says that the Bills’ chances of winning the AFC East is just 27%, here’s some of what ESPN had to say about Buffalo:
“What we know: The Bills defense is solid — ranking No. 5 in scoring defense — but injuries to key players are taking a toll. Three starters are out for either the season or at least a significant time, and while they brought in reinforcements at the trade deadline — CB Rasul Douglas and DT Linval Joseph — the defense is not at the level of play it was earlier in the season. One example: The unit allowed 288 yards per game through Week 4 and 370.8 yards per game since Week 5.”
Fans have good reason to be discouraged about what this season looks like for the Bills, but it’s important to remember that as long as Buffalo still has Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, among others, that the team will always have a chance to chase a championship. The Bills face the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football for their Week 10 matchup.
