ESPN held a NFL roundtable to reflect on the first wave of free agency. Over the course of the past two weeks, the league has seen a lot of players on the move.
At the start of free agency, few expected the Buffalo Bills to make the types of moves they did. Buffalo landed a big fish in Von Miller, but the sheer number of additions by the Bills turned some heads.
All in all, at least one analyst from the former world-wide leader thinks the Bills are sitting pretty after it all. NFL analyst Matt Bowen selected the Bills has his “most improved team” after the work done in Buffalo:
Bowen: Bills. The Bills added a game-changer in pass-rusher Von Miller, while defensive tackles Tim Settle and DaQuan Jones bolster the interior of the front. Buffalo upgraded the defensive line here to keep the AFC’s top quarterbacks in check and make a Super Bowl run.
Along with the praise of their entire haul, a few signings, in particular, were highlighted.
In little surprise, Miller’s addition is amongst this group. Fantasy football writer Tristan Cockcroft set the bar high for the entire organization when addressing Miller signing with the Bills, as he was picked as a nominee for the best signing in the entire NFL:
Cockcroft: OLB Von Miller to the Bills. Miller is coming off a strong bounce-back season, including a great showing during the playoffs. He might be the last piece needed to help push the Bills over the top to a Super Bowl win.
Finally, while the Bills did a bulk of their free agency work on the defensive side of things, the offense was recognized as well. In signing offensive lineman Rodger Saffold, fantasy football writer Eric Moody sees a diamond in the rough as Saffold was picked as his “best bargain” signing:
Eric Moody, fantasy football writer: G Rodger Saffold III to the Bills. The former All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl guard will provide valuable pass protection for franchise quarterback Josh Allen, but I am eager to see how he impacts Buffalo’s rushing game since the Bills rank 23rd in run block win rate.
