Kenneth Walker proved beyond any shadow of a doubt on Saturday that he is an elite playmaker, the Michigan State running back rolling out with a big afternoon in his team’s 31-13 win over Rutgers.

Walker, the nation’s leading rusher coming into the weekend, had 232 rushing yards on 29 carries with one rushing touchdown in the win at Rutgers. That third-quarter touchdown went for 94 yards, becoming the longest rushing touchdown in SHI Stadium history.

“But tell you what – he is a special player. He’s a special talent, and he will play on Sundays that is for sure and the way that he carried the ball and continued to get stronger and stronger as the game was going on, and he just showed his big-play ability,” LeGrand said on Monday during the ‘Chop Weekly’ show.

“It was just like you know what, I’m going to tip my hat to the guy. That was a special performance that we saw from him on Saturday.”

Walker now has 912 rushing yards on the season and nine rushing touchdowns. He is averaging 7.1 yards per rushing attempt.

With the win, Michigan State improved to 6-0 (3-0 Big Ten) on the season and is now No. 9 in the most recent USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Rutgers (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten) will look to snap their three-game losing streak – all to teams currently in the USA TODAY Sports top 10 – on Saturday against 2-3 Northwestern.

Over the weekend, the inspirational LeGrand was inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame.
