Elijah Herring continues to develop at linebacker for Vols

Elijah Herring continues to develop at linebacker for Tennessee.

Sophomore linebacker Elijah Herring has recorded 24 tackles and two tackles for a loss through four games in 2023.

The 6-foot-3, 238-pound Herring totaled 11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks and one pass deflection as a freshman at Tennessee last season.

Third-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed Herring ahead of the Vols’ Week 5 game versus South Carolina.

“He’s continued to develop at the linebacker position when he first got here,” Heupel said. “In high school, he played on the first level. He’s continued to progress with his ability to have his eyes on the right spot, steer pullers, get to the right gap and continued to do a better job of tackling. He’s violent, he’s disruptive, he cares, he practices hard, he’s got the right makeup.”
