Eli Manning retires as NFL’s highest-paid player ever

New York Giants QB Eli Manning will retire as the NFL’s highest-earning player in history.

You can get rich in the NFL. Just ask the Manning family.

The website Business Insider is reporting that 37 NFL players have topped $100 million in earnings in their careers with Eli Manning at the top of the list. His older brother Peyton is a close second.

According to BI, Eli has earned a whopping $252.3 million in his 16 years with the New York Giants:

Highest single-season earnings: $37 million (2015; included $31 million signing bonus)

Championships: 2 Pro Bowls: 4 First-team All-Pro: 0

One thing to know: Manning will retire from the NFL this week after 16 seasons and two Super Bowl wins. However, not all is lost as the Giants paid him $17 million this season, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history. Not bad for being maybe just the third-best quarterback in his family.

Peyton, who we’re guessing is the best quarterback in the family (joke), made $248.7 million in his 18-year career — 13 with the Indianapolis Colts and four with the Denver Broncos. He missed the 2011 season with a neck injury.

Highest single-season earnings: $35 million (2004; includes $34.5 million signing bonus)

Championships: 2 Pro Bowls: 14 First-team All-Pro: 7

One thing to know: Manning’s final paycheck in the NFL was a $4 million bonus for winning the Super Bowl in 2015. He had one year and $19 million remaining on his Broncos contract when he retired.

Seven other players have earned over $200 million in their careers, all quarterbacks:

Drew Brees ($244.7M) is third, Tom Brady ($235.2M) fourth, Aaron Rodgers ($233.6M) fifth followed by Ben Roethlisberger ($232.3M), Matt Ryan ($223.5M), Philip Rivers ($218.9M) and Matthew Stafford ($203.8M).
