Former New York Giants quarterback turned ubiquitous television and endorsement icon does not believe that the recently retired Tom Brady will follow him and brother Peyton Manning into the realm of analyzing football on TV.
When out in New York City, Eli Manning was approached by TMZ about the potential of Brady joining the broadcast booth. Manning’s answer was straight and swift.
“He’s not going into broadcasting,” Manning told TMZ. “He’s too good.”
That seems about right. Very few of the great quarterbacks in league history have gone into broadcasting. Recently, we have seen the Manning brothers and Drew Brees assume part time roles on football broadcasts and Troy Aikman in FOX Sports’ top NFL booth analyst but mostly the great passer of our time stay away from television analysis.
Brady appears to be above that as well plus he just doesn’t really have the temperament for it. Aikman is a laid-back personality while it’s hard to many of the Alphas such as Dan Marino, John Elway and Brett Favre talking X’s and O’s during games.
We do wish, however, that CBS would either dump or train Tony Romo to do a better job on their broadcasts. His performance during the AFC Championship Game was a subpar effort.
