Esports group eFuse and popular streaming personality MrBeast announced the Creator League, a new esports group led by popular entertainment influencers where anyone can join the team – for a price. Creator League’s goal is giving communities a role in esports – a sector that eFuse says is broken beyond repair – and a chance to connect with their favorite streamers in the competitive multiplayer scene.
Creator League will start with eight teams led by Twitch and YouTube streamers, including singer Bella Poarch, competitive World of Warcraft group OTK, and OpTic Gaming. Fans can purchase a community pass for $19.99 that gives them a spot on a team, where they can work with team leaders and other players to create rosters, form strategies, and, depending on the team’s performance, win cash and other prizes.
Those who purchase a community pass will also have access to private Discord servers and invitation-only tournaments throughout the season. Creators will actively participate, manage their teams, and stream on their channels, though fans who make the team are not obligated to participate.
Not everyone who purchases the community pass will get a spot on their creator team, though they will still have access to the other pass features.
“My community is the best,” Fortnite pro streamer Clix, one of the team leaders, said in a statement. “They really support me to the fullest [and] I wanted to give them more opportunities to compete for a ton of cash and rewards, but at the same time feel like we’re all on the same team.”
eFuse is holding a Fortnite open qualifier from Sep. 8, 2023, through Sep. 10, 2023, where anyone with an interest can compete on PC, without purchasing a community pass. The qualifier will take place on a custom map, with a $50,000 prize pool and one spot on a creator’s team up for grabs.
On Sep. 13, 2023, the Creator League will host a live show where each team leader drafts their picks and hosts a voting session to decide on team strategy. The first competitive Fortnite tournament begins on Sep. 19, 2023, and the playoffs and finals run from Oct. 3, 2023, through Oct. 5, 2023, with a $200,000 prize pool and payouts guaranteed for all competitors, including fans.
