[autotag]Sam Hunt Racing[/autotag] announced on Wednesday afternoon that [autotag]Ed Jones[/autotag], a former NTT IndyCar Series driver, will compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season for the organization. Jones has competed in 63 IndyCar races and has one start in NASCAR with Young’s Motorsports at Circuit of the Americas last year.
Jones hasn’t competed in the Xfinity Series, so this would be his debut at the level. The 29-year-old driver is slated to run the Xfinity Series races at Circuit of the Americas on March 23, Portland International Raceway on June 1, and Sonoma Raceway on June 8. Jones will attempt to make the field in the No. 24 car at Circuit of the Americas in a few weeks.

This is a significant moment for Jones, who won the FIA European F3 Championship in 2013 and the Indy Lights championship in 2016. The former IndyCar driver has plenty of success in open-wheel racing but now gets a genuine shot at the Xfinity Series. It’ll be interesting to see how Jones runs as he gets three opportunities with Sam Hunt Racing.
