Dwight Howard signs short-term deal overseas

The veteran big man is heading back overseas in an attempt to earn interest from an NBA roster.

Dwight Howard had a workout with the Golden State Warriors during the offseason. However, he could not secure himself a spot on the team’s roster despite their clear need for size in the middle of the court. Since that workout, Howard has been a free agent waiting for a chance to get back into the NBA.

With little interest in the future Hall of Famer, Howard decided to put himself back in a position to impress. He signed a short-term deal to play for Strong Group, a team based out of the Philippines. He will participate in the two-week Dubai International Championship.

Howard hopes his performances in that tournament can prove to teams around the NBA that he can still cut it at the NBA level. Golden State still has an open roster spot and could also use additional size to help protect the rim and anchor their defense.

If the veteran big man impresses during the tournament, and the Warriors’ inconsistencies continue, perhaps the front office will take another look at Howard as a potential low-risk, high-reward pickup.
