Duke softball selected as NCAA regional host, earns No. 10 seed overall

Fresh off an ACC Tournament victory, the No. 10 Blue Devils softball team hosts South Carolina, Utah, and Morgan State in the Durham Regional.

There will be more postseason softball in Durham after the NCAA announced Duke as the nation’s 10th overall seed in the postseason.

The Blue Devils, who won both the ACC regular-season title and the conference tournament, will host South Carolina, Utah, and Morgan State for the four-team, double-elimination tournament.

Duke hopes to extend its best season in school history. The Blue Devils went 44-6 in the regular season, the best mark in school history, before a dramatic three-game run through the conference bracket. After back-to-back walk-off wins against Boston College and Clemson, the first by a home run and the second by an overturned play at the plate, Duke overcame a three-run deficit against Florida State in the title game.

Senior Claire Davidson, who set a school record with 61 RBIs this season, earned ACC Player of the Year honors, while classmate Jala Wright was named ACC Pitcher of the Year.

The winner of the four-team bracket will face the winner of the Columbia Regional, hosted by Missouri. The Tigers will face Washington, Indiana, and Omaha. The two champions will play a best-of-three Super Regional series.

Duke looks to book its first-ever ticket to the Women’s College World Series after two previous Super Regional appearances.

The Durham Regional begins on May 17.
