Ducks Wire Player of the Game: Troy Franklin turns in vintage 2 TD performance

With his fourth 100-yard game this year and a pair of TDs, Troy Franklin was an easy call for our Player of the Game award.

The Oregon Ducks had a shaky start against the Stanford Cardinal. Once they developed a run game and strung together a few stops, the Ducks pulled away and left Stanford in the dust.

There were quite a few individuals that stood out today. Bo Nix had a nearly perfect game passing the ball. Evan Williams continued to dominate, both in coverage and by getting into the backfield. But the standout player today has to be Troy Franklin, and he is the recipient of Ducks Wire’s Player of the Game honors.

For the fourth time this season, Franklin finished with more than 100 yards receiving. He did so on 7 receptions in as many targets; two went for Ducks’ TDs. On one of those TDs, Franklin was running with the ball after the catch and beat the final Stanford defender with a seemingly effortless juke move. Franklin’s pair of TDs put the game out of reach and perfectly exemplified the strength of the Oregon offense on its way to a 42-6 win.

Looking forward, the Ducks will face the Washington Huskies and their premier offense on Oct. 14. This will be a highly anticipated matchup. Oregon and Washington arguably possess the two best offenses in the country. Much has been said nationally about the prowess of Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan and the rest of the Huskies’ receiving corps, but Troy Franklin has shown this whole season — and he showed again Saturday — that he is one of the nation’s top receivers.

This Oregon-Washington game should be one of the best games of the season, and Troy Franklin will likely have a large role to play.
