Our friends at Ducks Wire aren’t wrong in what they are saying.
Giving a five-year outlook to the USC football program, Ducks Wire writer Miles Dwyer notes the following:
“This season will be a good indicator of how the next five years will fare for the USC Trojans. 2022 was a good start to the Lincoln Riley era, but with the hire of a coach who is as high-profile as him and with the history of USC, expectations for the next five years are high. As I mentioned earlier, the Trojans need to grow this season in order to be on the right track. If they take a step forward this season — as I expect them to — I think they will challenge for a national championship in the next five years. If they don’t make that next step, however, the future could be grim for USC and it could be short for Lincoln Riley as the coach of the Trojans.”
It’s hard to find anything particularly wrong or flawed about that statement, though the quality of USC recruiting is definitely making it easier to believe that the Trojans will be in good shape in 2024 and 2025 even if this season falls short of ultimate expectations.
