Ducks get No. 1 seed in NIT, set to host rematch in first round matchup

We’ve got a rematch in the NIT. No. 1 seed Oregon will host the UC Irvine Anteaters, who beat the Ducks earlier this year.

The Oregon Ducks were unable to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament this year after falling to the UCLA Bruins in the semifinals of the Pac-12 tournament, but they are in a good spot to make a potentially deep run in the NIT.

The Ducks were given a No. 1 seed in the NIT, where they will now host UC Irvine in the first round at Matthew Knight Arena.

Ironically, UC Irvine beat Oregon once already earlier this season, handing the Ducks one of their worst losses of the season.

The game will be played on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.

For a school with as high of expectations at Oregon, with a legendary head coach like Dana Altman and some of the best recruiting in college basketball, going back to the NIT for a second-straight season is certainly a disappointment. The Ducks finished the 2022-23 season with a 19-14 overall record, and 12-8 in Pac-12 play.

Regardless of what happens for Altman and the NIT, there will be some high expectations once again next season, with a highly-rated recruiting class coming in that features 5-star Kwame Evans, 5-star Mookie Cook, and 4-star Jackson Shelstad.
