After two disappointing seasons in Northeast Ohio, the Cleveland Browns cut 2021 NFL draft fourth rounder Tommy Togiai after overhauling their defensive interior. The rumor was, however, that the Browns wanted to get Togiai back on their practice squad once he cleared waivers. Togiai had other plans as he instead signed to the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In Jacksonville, Togiai will reunite with his teammate at Ohio State, Davon Hamilton, who just received a massive payday from the Jaguars this past offseason. The Browns were able to retain former second round defensive tackle Trysten Hill to their practice squad despite losing Togiai to Jacksonville.
Togiai is the second young player who went elsewhere to land on a practice squad, as second-year kicker Cade York also opted for a fresh start away from the Browns. York signed to the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans despite being pursued to return to Cleveland.
