Drew Gilbert records two hits in Team USA intrasquad game.

A pair of University of Tennessee baseball players were in action Saturday night for Team USA’s National Collegiate Baseball Team Saturday night during an intrasquad game at Burlington Athletic Stadium in Burlington, North Carolina.

The Stripes defeated the Stars, 7-4.

Volunteers’ outfielder Drew Gilbert started in center field for the Stripes (2-0).

Hitting in the leadoff spot, Gilbert went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Stripes, who set the tone for the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning off Tennessee sophomore pitcher Blade Tidwell.

Tidwell emerged as a dominant force as the Vols’ Sunday starter in 2021.

He surrendered four earned runs and four hits in three innings pitched.

Tidwell had two walks and four strikeouts for the Stars (0-2).
