Drew Gilbert named second-team All-America by college baseball writers.

Another University of Tennessee baseball player has picked up national preseason honors.

Volunteers’ sophomore pitcher and outfielder Drew Gilbert was named a second-team All-America Standout by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

He was selected to the team as a utility player.

Gilbert is the fifth Tennessee player to receive preseason All-America honors. He joins Max Ferguson, Jake Rucker, Connor Pavolony and Jackson Leath to earn All-America honors.

In the abbreviated 2020 season, Gilbert’s first on Rocky Top, he emerged as one of the Big Orange’s most versatile players.

He made 10 starts for the Diamond Vols in the outfield and made for appearances on the mound, all out of the bullpen.

Gilbert picked up a win last season against Stanford in the inaugural Round Rock Classic.

At the plate, he batted .350 and had multiple hits in five games.
