Drew Gilbert leads Vols to victory with two home runs

Recapping UT’s win over UNC Greensboro Sunday.

Sophomore Drew Gilbert exhibited his power Sunday afternoon as the Volunteers completed a sweep of UNC Greensboro (10-5).

Gilbert blasted a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, to lift No. 14 Tennessee past the Spartans at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Gilbert went 2-for-3 with three runs and five RBIs for UT (14-3).

The Vols also received offensive production from others.

Max Ferguson went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, a double, an RBI and a run scored. Connor Pavolony was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and one RBI for the Vols, who scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

On the mound, Blade Tidwell started and picked up his second win of the 2021 season. Tidwell (2-1) pitched six innings.

He gave up two runs, four hits, one walk, while striking out six.

Sean Hunley yielded one run, two hits and a walk in three innings. He had one strikeout en route to notching his first save this year.
