A pair of University of Tennessee student-athletes have been selected to play for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
Pitcher Blade Tidwell and center fielder Drew Gilbert were named to the team Thursday.
Their stints with USA Baseball begins Tuesday.
USA Baseball invited 45 players to participate on the summer team and players will be divided into two teams, the Stars and Stripes.
The two squads will play 11 intrasquad games with 10 contests being played at Appalachian League ballparks.
The Appalachian League is in its first season as a collegiate summer league as part of Major League Baseball and USA Baseball’s Prospect Development Pipeline.
The collegiate national team will also play an intrasquad game at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on July 4. First pitch is slated for 1:30 p.m. EDT and will be streamed live on USABaseball.com, USA Baseball’s Facebook page and its YouTube channel.
Tennessee is one of 12 programs to have two players named to the team.
