Drake welcomes draftees Scottie Barnes, Dalano Banton to Raptors

Barnes and Banton linked up with Drake as the four-time Grammy-award-winning artist welcomed them to Toronto.

Drake wasted no time welcoming in the latest acquisitions to the Toronto Raptors as the four-time Grammy-award-winning artist was pictured with Scottie Barnes and Dalano Banton.

Of course, the Raptors on Thursday selected Barnes from Florida State with the fourth overall pick. Banton, who was born in Toronto, was taken with the 46th overall pick to become the first Canadian-born prospect drafted by the Raptors.

Once the Raptors took Barnes, Drake, who serves as a global ambassador for the team, quickly hopped on Instagram to welcome him to the organization. Barnes and Banton then linked up with Drake on Sunday, which was Barnes’ 20th birthday.

The Raptors surprised much of the NBA on Thursday after selecting Barnes with the fourth overall pick. They had been linked to Jalen Suggs during much of the pre-draft process but elected to take Barnes, who was named the ACC Freshman of the Year last season with the Seminoles.

Meanwhile, Banton averaged 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and one steal in 27 games last season. He was one of 18 players in the country to register a triple-double when he had 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists against Doane College on Dec. 17.

The two players project to be strong additions to the Raptors as they look to have a bounce-back campaign next season. Certainly, Drake did his part to make them feel right at home.
