Drake Maye overtakes Caleb Williams as top pick on Touchdown Wire mock draft

The Trojans quarterback and presumptive No. 1 pick slipped down to fourth in Doug Farrar’s latest projection.

There’s a new No. 1 pick in the Touchdown Wire mock drafts.

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar said the Chicago Bears would pick North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye ahead of his USC counterpart and defending Heisman winner Caleb Williams in his latest mock draft on the website.

Farrar said Williams’ last three games, which have seen the star Trojans quarterback throw for 455 yards, a single touchdown, and three interceptions on 72 attempts, might be enough to give talent evaluators pause.

“While a strong finish to the season could propel Williams back up to the top…well, right now, I’d bet there are quite a few NFL personnel people who are torn,” Farrar wrote.

Williams fell to the Denver Broncos with the No. 4 pick in Farrar’s updated mock draft.

Maye had thrown for 2,249 yards, 14 touchdowns, and five interceptions this season. UNC is 6-1 and ranked, but they just lost to the previously 1-5 Virginia Cavaliers. Maye finished that game with 24 completions on 48 attempts, throwing for 347 yards, two touchdowns, and a last-minute interception when he was hit as he threw.
