Draft Wire gives Cardinals an A for draft class

Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling is the latest to praise the Cardinals’ work in the draft.

The Arizona Cardinals are happy with the six players they drafted over the weekend and those outside the organization are giving the team high marks. The latest in the draft grades coming in is from Draft Wire managing editor Luke Easterling.

He gives the Cardinals an A for their draft.

Getting the No. 3 overall prospect at No. 8 overall is a great way to start any draft, and that’s what the Cardinals did when they landed Clemson defensive weapon Isaiah Simmons in the first round.

Trading for DeAndre Hopkins was the best possible way they could have spent their second-round pick, and they landed one of the biggest steals of Day 2 with Houston offensive tackle Josh Jones in the third round.

The fourth round brought two massive defensive tackles in Utah’s Leki Fotu and LSU’s Rashard Lawrence, with Lawrence being one of the draft’s biggest steals of all. Cal linebacker Evan Weaver and Arizona State running back Eno Benjamin were great value picks who are talented enough to make the roster with versatility and special teams ability.

Jones and Lawrence are both considered steals and even Simmons in the first round was a value pick because he was Draft Wire’s No. 3 player and the Cardinals got him with the eighth overall pick.

The only draft pick not mentioned as coming with value is fourth-rounder Leki Fotu.

Obviously, it is too early to know if this ends up being a good draft class, but it terms of talent, need and value, the Cardinals did very well for themselves.
