In their latest 2025 NFL mock draft, our friends at Draft Wire entertained a potentially league-altering scenario that involved Colorado football quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
The preseason mock draft projects the Dallas Cowboys to trade up with the Carolina Panthers for the top overall pick, which they’ll then use to select Sanders.
Assuming Dallas makes the playoffs again this upcoming season, longtime owner Jerry Jones would have to offer Carolina (or whoever earns the No. 1 pick) a massive haul, but it could be worthwhile considering Sanders’ high ceiling. Draft Wire’s scenario also likely assumes that the Cowboys won’t extend current quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract.
Sanders’ father, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, spent five seasons with the Cowboys and maintains a relationship with Jones.
Here’s some of what Draft Wire analyst Curt Popejoy wrote:
We are confident if the Cowboys selected the younger Sanders, he’d be happy to be there but it’s hard to imagine he will be available if the Cowboys make the playoffs and are picking in the 20s.
