The Red River Rivalry can even impact commercial shoots. This year, Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers is starring in Dr Pepper’s ‘Fansville.’
‘Fansville’ is a satirical episodic drama from Dr Pepper set in a fictional college town. The popular series of commercials is in its seventh season. The Texas QB plays ‘Deputy Ewers’ alongside series regular Brian Bosworth. The Oklahoma Sooners legend has portrayed the Sheriff of Fansville since 2018.
It is an ironic and funny twist that the Longhorns QB would be paired with such a big name in Oklahoma football history. ‘The Boz’ has always famously hated Texas and has never been shy about saying so.
Bosworth was asked about the unusual pairing on Norman, OK radio station KREF 1400 AM. Boz says Dr Pepper didn’t let him know the 2024 player played for Texas before the actual shoot.
“They didn’t tell me Quinn was my deputy until we got to the set. And I said, ‘So, who’s the guy?’ Because every year the last 2-3 years they’ve brought a new guy on. And they didn’t tell me this year, probably because I would say, ‘No. Hell No! I’m not doing that!’
Then they said it’s Quinn Ewers and he wants to meet me. I said, ‘Alright, tell him I’m outside his trailer and when he walks out don’t look anywhere but straight ahead. And I’ll be coming from one side or the other, but I won’t let him know. He’ll hear me.'” — Fansville Sheriff Brian Bosworth

It didn’t take long for the two-time Butkus Award Winner to warm up to the Texas quarterback.
“We had fun together. It was a great opportunity. He’s a great kid. A great competitor.
