When a player is preparing to hit free agency with a real chance of leaving for the first time in their career, there’s a lot of planning that goes along with that.
New Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead went through that very scenario this offseason. After nine seasons and three Pro Bowl appearances as a member of the New Orleans Saints, the 30-year-old was set to hit the market without a clue of where he’d land.
On Thursday, Armstead released a vlog on his YouTube channel that gave us a glimpse into his world just days before the legal tampering period began.
Throughout the video, Armstead shows the viewer around his Community Center in Cahokia, Illinois – a space that was supposed to open in the early part of 2021 before a winter storm caused major flooding.
Armstead shares some of the things he would consider when picking a new team, including “cities, organization, coaches and scheme.”
“Especially me, now, I’m a veteran where I’m going into my 10th year a lot of stuff that would be higher on the priority list for a younger player probably wouldn’t necessarily be that much for me,” Armstead said. “I want to win. I got dreams of a Super Bowl, all that good stuff, but I need my family to be in a good situation too.
“If I can run off my list you know we got win probability. Can we compete for a Super Bowl? The organization, what they stand for and what they’ve done. History. Tradition. The locker room. The guys. The roster. Then Geographically you look at where am I located? Is it warm? Is it cold? We getting four seasons? All that play a part. Quality of life. Real estate. Housing and all that good stuff… Whatever new spot I’m going to I’m definitely going to be hands-on in the community, so I need to check that out and see what that’s like to.”
At the end of the video, Armstead shared a quick conversation with his agent, David Butz, where Butz gave him the offensive tackle the rundown on the legal tampering period.
This was a cool inside look at the process, and it seems like more of these will be coming out, so keep an eye out for those.
