Dolphins promote WR Isaiah Ford to 53-man roster

The Miami Dolphins have activated WR Isaiah Ford to the team’s active roster.

With the news that WR Jakeem Grant’s 2019 season is officially over due to a high ankle sprain, the Dolphins move quickly in their efforts to place another receiver on the roster — and they were able to stay in-house to do so. Miami is activating WR Isaiah Ford off of the team’s practice squad to fill Grant’s spot on the roster, providing Miami with another young talent to further assess throughout the course of their final 5 games this season.

Ford has been with the team since 2017, when he was a 7th-round draft selection in the NFL draft. This will be Ford’s second stint on the active roster this season for Miami, he took snaps in three games in the first half of the season before being cut and resigned to the practice squad back at the beginning of November.

Ford logged his first career reception with the team in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers and has 2 receptions for 9 yards in his career. Opportunities will be more abundant this time around, as Miami’s only other active receivers are DeVante Parker, Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson. Look for familiarity to play a big role in Ford getting increased looks throughout the rest of the year, although the main recipient of extra targets is likely to come from another position — whether that be TE Mike Gesicki or one of the several running backs Miami will look to rotate into the backfield.
