Dolphins make another leap in Week 17 power rankings following last-second win over Cowboys

Miami rises up the power rankings after downing the Cowboys.

The Miami Dolphins, after downing the New York Jets the week before, earned a second straight victory on Sunday, this time beating the Dallas Cowboys 22-20 on a last-second field goal from kicker Jason Sanders.

Through 16 weeks, Mike McDaniel’s team has put together an 11-4 record with a chance to clinch their division on Sunday.

With just two games left in the regular season, Touchdown Wire’s Jarrett Bailey has been producing weekly power rankings for the NFL. Last week, following their win over the Jets, Miami jumped to No. 5. Now, after their most recent victory, they’ve moved up to No. 4.

Here’s what Bailey had to say about the Dolphins:

“The Dolphins got their signature win of the season, silencing all the critics saying they couldn’t beat good teams. They’ll have to beat another good team next week when they face the Ravens.”

Ahead of Miami, at this point, are the Buffalo Bills (No. 3), San Francisco 49ers (No. 2) and Baltimore Ravens (No. 1), as the Dolphins leaped over the Kansas City Chiefs, who lost to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.

If Miami beats Baltimore this week, they’ll have a strong case to be the top team in next week’s power rankings.
