Dolphins facing favorable fortunes against banged up Giants

The Miami Dolphins will not see a Giants team at full strength this afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

They say that football is a game of attrition — and the 2019 Miami Dolphins are as good of an example as you can possibly find. The team has churned through cornerbacks and offensive linemen this season at an unbelievable rate — bidding farewell to numerous talents who have seen their seasons ended prematurely due to injury.

But this week, against the New York Giants, it is the Dolphins who will serve as the picture of perfect health. Because of the players the Dolphins have available on the 53-man roster, Miami will have nearly every single one of them at their disposal. The Giants? Not so much. This week has crept along with many of the Giants’ prominent players considered up in the air and now that game day has arrived, New York knows for a fact that they’ll be missing several key contributors in a showdown with Miami.

Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones will miss his second consecutive start with a high ankle sprain. New York’s top two options at the tight end position have already been declared out as well — star receiving tight end Evan Engram has been battling a foot injury as of late and backup Rhett Ellison is still recovering from a concussion. Neither will play today.

Neither will offensive guard Kevin Zeitler, who has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

The Dolphins’ secondary will be tested none the less with their lack of depth — but this injuries for New York could serve as pivotal swing points in a game that will bring much weight to the race for positioning in the NFL Draft order. The Giants, with a loss, lock themselves into a top-3 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft order. The Dolphins, with a win, can probably kiss a top-5 pick in this year’s NFL Draft goodbye and would be left more likely to pick 6th or 7th in the order with two games left to play.
